What We Measured
We planted identical bean seeds in three identical cups with identical potting soil. Over 6 weeks we measured: germination rate, plant height, leaf color (0–5 scale), and root health.
Results Table
- 📏 Height at 6 weeks: Chemical 14cm | Castings 18cm | Control 10cm
- 🌱 Germination rate: Chemical 80% | Castings 95% | Control 75%

💡 Did You Know? Chemical fertilizers can create "salt buildup" in soil over time, which actually damages the soil's ability to support plants. Worm castings never create salt buildup — they improve soil health with each application.
The Long Game
After the 6-week experiment, we kept the chemical fertilizer plants going for another 4 weeks without adding more fertilizer. They started to yellow and slow down. The worm casting plants? Still going strong. The nutrients in castings release slowly — they're not a quick spike, they're steady and sustained.
Our Conclusion
For fast results on a new plant? Chemical fertilizer has a slight early edge. For sustained growth, healthy soil, and the environment? Worm castings win. And since healthy soil means you need less fertilizer over time, worm castings actually get cheaper the longer you use them.
